About the space

179 Great Portland Street was built in 1913 for Smiths Industries. The building was opened to make the first ever Speedometer for the motor car. The well-known architects Stiff & Trevillion are working hard to restore it’s original character to the building. Expect a combination of industrial/contemporary style mixed with vintage/modern furniture and lighting.

The building is within walking distance of Great Portland Street tube as well as a 5 minute walk to Oxford Street for those who like to shop. The building has private office space, large lounge space and meeting rooms.

About the area

London

The UK’s capital city is a well-established hub for flexible office space, home to a wide selection of spaces from household industry names such as WeWork and The Office Group to unique independent providers. This vast city can be split into five areas; Central, North, South, East and West, each with a slightly different offering for businesses. As the core of the city, Central London is naturally, a popular area for businesses and in turn a hub for flexible office space. Shoreditch is known for its vibrant tech scene, and in the prestigious West End area of Mayfair you’ll find some of the largest and well-established companies in the world.

In the East of London, Hackney has become popular with creative industries, and sitting in stark contrast is Canary Wharf which is the financial hub of the city. South London is an up-and-coming area for businesses looking for more affordable rent prices and in areas like Brixton, more flexible workspace is opening up as demand grows. In the West of the city, this leafy area is a popular residential area, but its fast links into central London still make it a desirable location for businesses. A trend we are beginning to see is more flexible workspaces opening up in residential markets to cater for those preferring to work closer to home.

London offers many benefits for businesses, despite the often high rent prices for offices, the city is well-connected through its underground system and has a bustling social scene and green spaces to enjoy. The flexible office market continues to grow and as more providers come onto the scene, there is plenty of choice to suit your business’ needs.

Our local experts in London are on the ground with an in-depth knowledge of the city and the different market offerings, so that we can find you the right workspace, for the best price. Can I say what an absolute pleasure it was working with Kim. Kim was extremely responsive and delivered a list of properties, all of them hit the brief that we gave. I would thoroughly recommend Kim and Workthere to anyone looking at Serviced Office Space.
