Co-working space

What is a coworking space?

Coworking spaces offer a desk to work at within a shared open office, typically with access to communal facilities, too.

Contracts are often offered on a monthly rolling basis or are bookable by the day. This type of workspace is ideal for many businesses, whether you’re an entrepreneur, freelancer, start-up or a small independent team. Coworking spaces are also beneficial for larger businesses looking to house specific teams or employees outside of their HQ offices, or to give employees more choice and flexibility over where they work

Many coworking spaces are open 24 hours-a-day, giving you a high level of flexibility to choose the working hours that best suit you and your business. Coworking desk memberships provide access to wider amenities within the flexible office space including kitchens, breakout areas and meeting rooms (sometimes at an additional cost). Depending on budgets and your schedule for being in the office, you can choose between two different types of coworking office space to rent: a dedicated desk or a hot desk. Read about the difference between the two below.

What are the benefits of coworking space?

Cheaper contracts

Networking opportunities

Access to amenities within the flexible office space

Greater flexibility with contract lengths

What is a dedicated desk?

A dedicated desk is an assigned space solely for your use within a shared working area. This type of workspace is particularly popular with entrepreneurs, start-ups and small teams who want to sit together, but don’t require the privacy of an office.

Dedicated desk memberships come with secure, lockable storage so you can keep your valuables safe. This type of membership will usually give you access to a number of communal facilities too, including meeting rooms, kitchens and phone booths. The amenities within a coworking space will vary from office to office.

What is a hot desk?

A hot desk enables you to work from any available space within a shared working area. This type of desk offers the greatest flexibility, as hot-desking memberships can be rented either daily or monthly, and support a drop-in, drop-out work structure. Many providers with multiple locations will offer access to all or several of their buildings through the hot-desking membership (this can even include international workspaces).

Hot desks are particularly beneficial for individuals or businesses that travel frequently and need a base in several locations. As with dedicated desks, you’ll have access to shared amenities within the coworking space, most commonly kitchens, lounge areas and meeting rooms.
