With almost 1.5 million citizens, Munich is the most populous city in Bavaria and is considered one of the most liveable cities in the world. The Werksviertel primarily attracts creative companies, startups, small and medium-sized enterprises from the media, advertising, art, design, technology and innovation sectors. However, established companies are also discovering this area; for example, KPMG is relocating its headquarters to the district. The market for flexible workspaces is developing, with flexible office centrees such asUnicorn, Design Offices and Regus having already opened locations around Ostbahnhof.
In recent years, the Werksviertel has developed into a trendy district for art, culture, gastronomy and leisure activities. This popular neighbourhood combines the old and the new and creates its very own urban lifestyle. The area has a diverse mix of buildings with trendsetting new buildings and restructured, converted industrial buildings. Well-known flexible office space buildings include "Werk 3" and the "Ostwerk".
The Werksviertel is connected to the rest of the city by several subway and S-Bahn lines. Ostbahnhof is known as the transportation hub in the district.
BMW's headquarters is located in the north of Munich, and the Knorr-Bremse company is also based here. In addition, FC Bayern has its headquarters in the north. Accordingly, companies from the automotive, engineering and sports management sectors are particularly well represented. The "Highlight Towers" skyscraper is striking building situated within Munich North; users include Fujitsu, IBM, Amazon and Sol Meliá. The flexible workspace provider Design Offices has office spaces available for rent here. Other established providers include Regus und Nutrion.
Munich North is characterized by a mixed environment of residential areas as well as important commercial and industrial areas. With the Olympic Park, BMW World and the Allianz Arena, the north is a hub for events related to sports, hobbies and automotives. Families in particular value the north as a place to live, with its location close to the city centre and its wide range of leisure opportunities.
Subway lines run through the north of Munich, providing good connections to the city centre.
