Hamburg "the gateway to the world"

Hamburg is the birthplace of the Hanseatic League, an alliance of trading cities and guilds between the 12th and 17th centuries. Today, it is an important industrial, media and trading centre and home to Europe's third largest port. The city welcomes more than four million visitors each year and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany, thanks to a breathtaking range of cultural attractions such as the Hamburger Kunsthalle art museum, various stage productions and musicals as well as the old warehouse district and countless sporting events. There is also the legendary St. Pauli football club and the infamous Reeperbahn.
