New research has revealed the most creative cities in Europe for digital nomads to work, with Vienna taking the number one spot.

The study, conducted by flexible office specialist Workthere, compared cities on a number of factors, including the number of cultural venues and museums, quality of life, the cost of flexible office space and salary. The Austrian capital topped the list thanks to its high average salary, fast internet speed and an array of concert, theatres and museums. The city, which is already known for its cultural history, architecture and music from Strauss, also ranked number one for quality of life.

Europe’s top ten creative cities for digital nomads are:

London isn’t far behind, with the UK capital ranking highly due to its large number of museums, average salary and quality of life. Despite being blessed with the most annual sunshine, with 3,345 hours recorded each year, Rome’s slow internet and high cost of living puts the Italian capital in 5th place.

Bucharest, Copenhagen and Madrid also made the top 10, with Bucharest offering the cheapest flexible desk space (£301) for potential digital nomads looking for hybrid working. London ranked highest for salary (£3,224), while Paris has the most museums, with 360.

Ed Bouterse, Head of Workthere Europe, comments:

“The top 10 cities for digital nomads shown in our research are located across Europe, which demonstrates the depth of culture and creativity on offer. With the pandemic accelerating a desire for more hybrid working, there are greater opportunities for those wishing to travel and work."
“Flexible office spaces are hugely attractive for digital nomads who require flexibility and agility from the locations that they work. Given that not all of those cities listed have a prominent flexible office market, there could be some great opportunity for flexible office operators moving forward.”
