Whitefield remained a quaint little settlement at the eastern periphery of Bangalore city until the late 1990s when the local IT boom became a major suburb. Outer Ring Road has eased the connectivity to the East from the other parts of the city. Also, the much anticipated ‘Namma Metro project” is expected to cater from Byappanahalli to Whitefield, covering 13 stations, further making it feasible for connectivity. Whitefield has extensive city bus connectivity with a wide range of services offered by BMTC. The Whitefield railway station is about 6 km.  It lies on the Bangalore-Chennai route, and so this section is slated to be converted to a quadruple line. The Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has a large inland container depot just off Whitefield road near ITPB in about 5 km.
